Historic buildings and monuments in Amsterdam will throw open their doors to visitors for the annual Open Monuments Day Amsterdam. The free event invites the public to explore and celebrate the city's rich history by touring its important buildings, monuments and private homes. 2017's theme was 'Farmers, citizens and countrymen', and will feature a host of buildings selected for their remarkable architecture, interiors or innovative ideas. As well as the chance to explore the buildings and hear stories from people who've been involved with them for long periods of their lives or from other experts, there is a fantastic programme of walks, boat and cycling tours, lectures and an extensive schedule of activities for kids and younger audiences. No fewer than 60 buildings and monuments took part in 2017.
