Free for 24 hours
The first 24 hours in the parking facilities are always free. At the moment, a system of paper tickets is in place to determine length of stay and payments have to be made in cash. To improve this system, the pilot project introduces the possibility of ‘checking in’ a bike upon arrival with an OV card or a debit card, and using that same card again when picking up the bike. Those holding a subscription can also install a chip on their bike that registers the bike automatically when entering or leaving a bike parking facility.
Improving bike parking
The pilot project is one of the measures designed to make use of the public bike parking facilities easier, as the City of Amsterdam is working to decrease the numbers of bikes locked up on the streets. It runs until late 2017, when it will be evaluated. Questions and feedback can be directed to [email protected].
