Avoiding noise, litter and other nuisances

The new rule follows the partial barbecue bans of recent years, when barbecuing was still permitted in designated areas of the park. According to the District of Zuid, the partial bans didn’t succeed in decreasing inconveniences for the residents. “Each year, we are spending a lot of money clearing up litter and repairing barbecue-related damage,” said Zuid’s Paul Slettenhaar. “There are better ways for us to use these funds.” In addition, Slettenhaar said that the litter left by large numbers of barbecue get-togethers on summer days as well as the strong smells and smoke reflected poorly on the park.
