Amsterdam tops renowned university rankings
The QS World University Rankings have declared the Communication and Media Studies programmes by the University of Amsterdam (UvA) to be the best in the world for the second year in a row. The renowned rankings by the British company Quacquarelli Symonds use six metrics: academic reputation, reputation among employers, faculty/student ratio, citations per faculty, international faculty ratio and international student ratio.
The UvA’s Communication and Media Studies are two separate programmes, though the QS rankings include them as one. They have seen a steep rise in the rankings, from eighth in 2015 to second place in 2017, only to top the rankings in both 2018 and 2019. The UvA is followed in the top five by Stanford University, the University of Southern California, the London School of Economics and Political Science and the University of Texas. Several other study programmes at UvA also ranked within the top 20 worldwide, including Sociology, Linguistics, Psychology, Anthropology, Geography, and Library & Information Management.
