Japanese festivity in Amsterdam
The annual Japan Festival – taking place in Amstelveen, near Amsterdam – is a celebration of all things Japanese (the clue's in the name!) Thanks to the expertise of the area’s large Japanese community, the festival truly transforms the area into a wonderful little slice of Japan. It’s happening at Amstelveen’s City Square (Stadsplein) on 8 October 2017, from 12:00 until 18:00.
The authentic family-friendly programme boasts something for everyone. If you’re a creative type, the festival has you covered with its workshops on Japanese calligraphy and complex origami techniques. More into sports? Push yourself by trying your hand at some traditional Japanese martial arts. Fancy yourself as more of a muso? The line-up of Japanese music is simply amazing, featuring traditional sounds from the region.
Delectable Japanese eats
Naturally, you can expect some of the tastiest Japanese food around at the festival. Some of Amsterdam’s top Japanese eateries and sushi restaurants will be flaunting their foodie wares, including Nosowa, Tokyo Ramen Takeichi, Sushi Time and many more. There’ll also be food trucks offering the latest tastes from Yakult, Kotobuki and ZaO.
“Japan Festival brings the Netherlands and Japan together in terms of culture and food,” said Amstelveen’s Mayor Maaike Veeningen. “It symbolises the level of cooperation and mutual respect between the two countries.”
