Social insurance coverage still applies

Measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) have resulted in many employees who usually work in the Netherlands to temporarily return to their home countries. These employees may have concerns about the implications of working from home (outside of the Netherlands) on their social insurance. Sociale Verzekeringsbank (SVB) advises that anyone who typically works in the EU, EEA or Switzerland will continue to be covered by the social insurance in the country they normally work from. So, for example, if you work in the Netherlands but you are temporarily working from another of these countries because of the coronavirus, you do not have to worry about changes to your social insurance. If the current coronavirus measures are extended and result in a change to this mandate in future, you can find out more about the effect on your social insurance position.
