Celebrate Thanksgiving safely from home

Usually, Thanksgiving is a big celebration enjoyed with friends and family, but this year will be different for many people. Though social distancing and following other measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus is important, you can still have turkey and all the trimmings at home.

Restaurants and caterers in Amsterdam are offering special takeaway and delivery options, and if you’re feeling brave, you can also buy a turkey and prepare it yourself.

Check out some of the options available and make plans quickly:

Bar Carter is offering a lavish takeaway Thanksgiving meal complete with mashed potatoes, roast turkey and pumpkin spice martinis. All you need to do is warm things up in your oven, but you must pre-order and pay by the morning of 23 November.

Frank’s Smokehouse  is offering all the goodies usually featured in its annual Franksgiving buffet in a specially prepared meal for delivery or pick-up. The delightful dinner includes pumpkin pie, smoked turkey and pureed sweet potatoes with chestnuts. Extras are available for every dish, so don’t hesitate to indulge.

Staring at Jacob is offering a traditional turkey dinner – which includes a bottle of wine – for takeaway.  Pre-ordering is a must, and you’ll need to choose a preferred pickup time, so be sure to plan ahead. There’s also a wonderful Thanksgiving brunch option, which includes pumpkin waffles.

Alma’s Sustainable Catering is preparing Thanksgiving dinner for delivery or takeaway, complete with free-range turkey, though vegans can treat themselves to the stuffed squash with grilled mushrooms. There's a four-person minimum for all orders and you can complete your meal with pumpkin pie and a glass of eggnog.

If you want to prepare a turkey at home, Slagerij De Leeuw can order one for you, though they will cook and debone it if you like, and sides are available as well. Traiteur Wagenaar Poelier en Wildhandel in Amstelveen can also supply you with a bird and they’re happy to stuff and roast it, too.
