ABF is a non-profit volunteer organisation that provides sports programmes for all ages and nationalities. Either sign up to play or be a volunteer.

Amsterdam Cricket Club
The Amsterdam Cricket Club, which was formed in 1921, is a family-friendly, social and successful club in the Amsterdam/Amstelveen area. Whether you're seeking high-quality Sunday league cricket or the gentler delights of a Saturday afternoon friendly, there is a team for everyone. There is also an extensive Colt’s section for children from the ages of 6 to 16.

Check out a game, join a team or volunteer as a referee and take part in the most exciting sport for women on four wheels. 

Amsterdam Football (soccer)
Men’s football/soccer 1st team playing in the official KNVB league system. New players are always welcome to try out.

Amsterdam Gaelic Athletic Football Club
All ages, abilities and backgrounds are welcome. Teams train weekly at the Eendracht pitches in Amsterdam West.

Amsterdam Hash House Harriers
Running club with friendly social vibe whose members love stopping frequently for a beer! Meets weekly on Sundays at 17:00 (summer) and at 15:00 (winter).

Amsterdam Netball
Amsterdam’s first netball club invites new players to join its social and competitive teams. The club meets twice per week for training and is especially welcoming towards newcomers to Amsterdam.

ASV Arsenal Saturday 2nds
An 11-a-side, men’s football/soccer team playing in KNVB Reserve Class 2. Arsenal is a predominately expat team, so it's very flexible with attendance and availability and has a friendly set-up where new players are always welcome.

ATAC – Amsterdam Triathlon and Cycling Club
Focussed on triathlon and cycling, ATAC is a social club that welcomes expats and locals alike, with training going hand in hand with coffee stops and after-training drinks. There is also an active social calendar that extends to athletes’ significant others and families. They have regular rides and runs for beginners through to experienced cyclists and triathletes, and welcome new members.

Australian Rules Football
For young, old and the experienced. Teams train weekly in different locations. They also play matches across Europe.

DBX Wolves - International Basketball Club
DBX Wolves is an independent international basketball club that embodies the next generation; teaching the fundamentals of basketball based in accordance with the American NBA style, which is by far the ultimate destination for basketball players worldwide.

Dragon Boat Club

Floorball Club Amsterdam Agents
The Agents dodge the rain by playing indoors, but not on ice. The result is pure adrenaline.

Fitee Community 
Fitee is a free, inclusive and international community that focuses on connecting people through a variety of sporting and social activities, such as Spikeball, Volleyball, football games and more. 

Footy Football Leagues
Form a team with friends, colleagues, house mates or whoever you like. All you need to do is pick a night of the week at a location that suits you and join a footballing competition. Players don’t have to be registered or pay a yearly subscription fee like a traditional club, and you can choose 5v5, 6v6 or 7v7, and even bubble football or archery tag.

Golf Club Olympus
Golf Club Olympus is a friendly club that welcomes expats of all ages and abilities. The 18-hole championship course and smaller 9-hole par 3 & 4 course is located in Amsterdam Zuidoost. There are formal competitions as well as social events, and an emphasis on nurturing young talent. 

HV Myra Hockey Team
HV Myra in Amstelveen is Amsterdam’s only expat hockey team. A dynamic group, the team members have mixed levels of experience, but share one goal: having fun! Practice is on Wednesdays at 21:00, with league matches on Sundays during the season. In the summer period there’s ZomerAvond Hockey, where anyone can join and try it out. New players with hockey experience are always welcome.

House of Running
A social running club offering programmes for all fitness levels to prepare for various races, such as the Amsterdam Marathon, half marathon or Dam to Damloop race. Get in great shape, make friends and have fun. The group meets weekly in Amsterdam, with two 20-21 week training seasons per year.

At this gym you'll learn the famous 'Mejiro-style'. Kickbox training that is accessible for everyone: young and old, male and female, beginners and experienced.

Kicks Football
Founded as a non-profit project of the Royal Dutch Football Association (KNVB), Kicks offers flexible football for busy people on busy schedules. With no long-term commitment necessary, join whenever and wherever you like and meet new people while taking part in training sessions, tournaments and league games. Free training sessions are available for new players.

 MHC Amstelveen

Since 1952, Mixed Hockey Club Amstelveen has invited field hockey fans to learn, play and have fun. The club has around 650 members and has offerings for both kids and adults, as well as all skill levels. There are also social gatherings and expat family hockey events where you can meet fellow internationals. New to field hockey? Sign up for one of the club's regular training clinics (which are conducted in English) and learn the rules of the game.

Slim Tennis
Slim Tennis is situated near Amsterdam Zuid WTC and offers tennis lessons for expats of all levels (including beginners). Custom lessons are possible, plus individual and group lessons can also be held during work lunch hours. These can be provided in English, French or Dutch.

Spallys Kickboxing
Learn the art of kickboxing with classes suited to beginners or experienced kickboxers looking for their next challenge. Spallys offer individual or group classes at several locations and gyms around Amsterdam.

Tennis lessons
Higgins Tennis Nederland offers tennis lessons in English for adults and children. They run camps and offer private lessons or group lessons at S.V. Triaz in Amsterdam.

Top Row
Learn the essential skills of rowing on Amsterdam’s beautiful canals. Or perhaps further out of town, surrounded by trees and green pastures. Top Row provides opportunities for beginners, groups and more experienced rowers. The instructors lead classes in boats for 1 to 4 people. New classes begin every eight weeks.


RowStudio is a workout studio focused on full-body workouts and teamwork through indoor rowing on a machine. They host expat-friendly group workouts that will introduce new members to the basics of rowing and focus on core and strength exercises.

TOS Actief
11-a-side men's soccer teams playing in KNVB class 5 & 6. TOS Actief Sunday 1 is predominantly a team of internationals, and Sunday 4 is a mixed team with both international and Dutch players. TOS Actief is a friendly club that is ready to welcome new players.


Touch Rugby XXX
Touch Rugby (or TOUCH) is a minimal contact sport played by men, women and children of all ages around the world. The XXX Amsterdam touch club runs a weekly session, and has formal leagues and domestic and international representative teams. The club is open to anyone interested in the sport regardless of their level of experience and is based at Sportpark Het Loopveld.



  • If gyms aren't your thing then maybe hardcore interval training in the Amsterdamse Bos is your idea of fun. Try the Bootcamp Club for a social networking experience that will make you sweat.

  • November Project Amsterdam is a free fitness community that meets every Wednesday morning at the NEMO Science Museum. Come along and bond with locals and other expats as you cheer and high-five through a challenging workout of stair runs and partner exercises. All fitness levels and ages are welcome. 


Dance classes

There are a few studios in Amsterdam, offering everything from hip hop to ballroom, salsa, street or swing.

  • Extremos puts a bit of passion into their salsa and zouk classes.

  • Dance school Kluver has a large selection of ballroom and Latin classes on offer.

  • Salsa classes at Extremos are open to all and always taught in English.

  • Studio Anna Mora offers modern dance, classical ballet and breakdance for kids, plus pilates classes, physiotherapy and massages.

  • SwingStreet offers a variety of jazzy swing lessons from Lindy Hop and Charleston to jazz or Balboa.

  • Friday night skate is a great place to meet like-minded skaters. Experience the thrill of skating around the city of Amsterdam.


Pilates, yoga and tai chi

There are numerous classes across the city – it’s a matter of finding one that suits you best. A simple internet search will show you many options.

  • Bikram Yoga Amsterdam has heated rooms to improve circulation and help flexibility.

  • NeiGong delivers both self-defence and Tai Chi Classes.

  • Smart Body Studio offers power flow and springboard pilates and has both beginners and experienced classes.

  • Studio Anna Mora has mat and reformer pilates as well as pre- and postnatal classes.
