Expert advice for all family needs
The Parent and Child Teams cover a wide range of issues including obstetrics, maternity care, child healthcare and education. International parents with younger children (or children born in the Netherlands) will probably already be familiar with their local team, as they typically give kids their regular check ups, weigh and measure them and provide vaccinations. However, the services provided by the teams have now been expanded.
Parent and child services
Examples of specialist advice and services include: dietary advice, parenting courses and workshops dealing with topics such as bullying. The Parent and Child Teams also work with speech therapists, physiotherapists and dietitians, and some even have a ‘games library’ so that families can borrow games to play. The teams cater for children of all ages, so services provided are not aimed solely at pre-school kids. Many of the provisions for those aged four and over are provided in collaboration with local schools.
Visiting a centre
Each Amsterdam city district has one or more Parent and Child Teams working in it, though it's worth remembering that some services require appointments, while others are covered during drop-in clinics. To find your nearest team, visit this dedicated Parent and Child Team page (in Dutch).
