A growing town next to Amsterdam
Diemen is home to approximately 26,000 people, a number that is expected to increase – and with good reason. Its location next to Amsterdam’s Oost and Zuidoost districts makes it one of the most easily accessible places in the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area to commute into the city by car or public transport. Its two train and subway stations provide direct links to Amsterdam Central Station, Amsterdam Zuid and Schiphol, with a travel times of 10 to 20 minutes each.
Why live in Diemen?
Diemen offers a wide variety of housing options ranging from spacious family homes to apartment buildings. It also has several dedicated student housing complexes catering to its large student population. Locals enjoy quiet streets and plenty of lush, natural spaces. The main park, Diemerbos, provides a spacious sanctuary for picnics and recreational activities such as cycling and horseback riding. The town centre offers many opportunities for shopping, as it's filled with one-of-a-kind boutiques as well as big-name chains. The dining options are equally diverse, with a mix of informal restaurants, cafés and bars dotted around the city. The Diemerplein shopping centre boasts more than 50 shops, and offers late-night shopping evening on Fridays and a market in the adjoining square on Wednesdays. Amsterdam's city centre is just a bike ride away as well. The Diemen community also holds several annual festivals and events, and the city is home to a wide variety of sports clubs.
Business opportunities in Diemen
Despite its size, many headquarters of international companies as well as small and medium-size businesses are established in Diemen, and the municipality attracts large numbers of entrepreneurs. As a result, the business association Ondernemend Diemen was established in 2011 as a more inclusive successor to a previous, time-honoured trade and industrial association, to provide its community with a network to promote collective interests.
