Relevant page components in the CMS
(If this section is not visible, you need to turn it on. Go to the Sitecore Experience Management via the Sitecore icon in the very top left of your screen (the icon with the nine little blocks). Control Panel > My Settings > Change application options > in the list tick the Quick info section box.)
Item ID - the unique identifier of the page or item. Can be used in queries on list pages.
Item name - the name of the page = URL, and, if Display name is set, the display name of the page. Read more about Display name on Ribbon page or see below.
Item path - the full path of where the item lives in the CMS. The path can often be copied and pasted into fields, avoiding the need to find the item through the content tree. Particularly images (paste the image path into the Background Image or Card Image fields) or a widget (paste the path into the Layout Details. See Ribbon page.)
Template - tells you what template you are currently working in. Template can be changed via Configure > Template Change. See Ribbon page for further instructions.
Contact (on Editorial page templates only)
Fill in the fields to display a map on the right of the page - as demonstrated on this page. Currently only Telephone and Website display. Note: the map will only show if the Contact Title is entered. More fields to enter for the map explained below under Location.
Title - H1 title of the page. Preferably matches the URL, Menu title, Meta title.
Introduction - The introduction is shown on the page above the main text (html formatting of this text is possible) in the grey bar. This is also the text that shows on the card of this page when displayed on a Landing page or List page. If you want a different card text you will need to create a widget that links to the page instead.
Text - html formatting of text here is possible.
Background Image - the header image that is shared across all language versions.
Background Image Language Specific - if you want to set a header image on a particular language version (the image is not "shared" across language versions)
Credit Name, Subtitle, Introduction Title and Header Intro Icon are not currently used.
Hide City Card CTA - hides the green City Card call-to-action button at the top of your page. Applies to all underlying pages.
Stop inheritance City Card Header - stops hiding the City Card call-to-action button from that page onward (all underlying pages.)
Card Image - allows you to set a different image that displays as the card image of the page on a Landing page or List page. The Background Image remains in place. Note: this does not apply to widgets. Widget images are always set separately.
Video - add a Youtube video as the header. Use the Youtube video ID only, ie https://youtu.be/0UV-n919hJY > enter only 0UV-n919hJY into the field.
Set the GPS coordinates using format lat/long: 52.370216, 4.895168. https://www.gps-coordinates.net is a handy resource to find GPS coordinates.
Enter the address - this will show in the Google directions when user clicks on 'Plan your route'.
Menu Title - generally the same as page Title and Meta Title. The menu title is what shows on the card of the page on a Landing page or List page. Therefore, the Menu Title can be adjusted so the card title is clearer on the Landing on List page.
This is the title and text that Google shows when your page appears in their search results. Proper and effective SEO title and text is important for Google rankings!
Meta Title - Generally same name as the page title. Title also shows on the tab in your browser. Can be optimised adding "Amsterdam" if relevant.
Meta Description - Generally can copy Introduction text, however, best practice is to write a more concise two-line text, preferably with the word "Amsterdam" used in it.
No Index Metatag - tick this box if you don't want Google to index the page. So it doesn't show up in search results.
Exclude From Internal Search - tick this box if you don't want the page to show up in the search results of iamsterdam.com.
Add relevant tags to your page so that your page comes up when queried on List pages. It also populates the default Related Cards widget at the bottom of Editorial (full width) Article pages and News pages.
Display name - To be used only on another language version of the page. Changes the display name in the content tree if you are working in that language and creates a new URL in that language. DO NOT use this on the original language version of the page. I.e. if the page was first made in English and titled "Canal cruises", use the Display name in another language to create a URL for the page in that language, ie "Grachtenrundfahrt" on the German version of the page.
You will see the URL switch names when you use the language switch on the front-end, but it is technically still the same page.
Use the Unpublishing option to take a page offline (Now) or place it back online (Clear). Note: the date picker does not work. When you unpublish, you still need to "publish" (in the Ribbon) the page for it to go offline.
