How to get there
Easily travel from Schiphol Airport – one of Europe’s best airports for international flight connections (currently 322 direct worldwide destinations). The area also has exceptional motorway access for travelling by car. Hoofddorp is only four minutes away from the airport by train, while the city centre of Amsterdam is only 15 minutes further. Employees also benefit from prioritised bus lanes (HOV) on some routes, which will be expanded further to improve public transport connections throughout the area. Major Dutch cities like Haarlem, The Hague, Leiden, Utrecht and Rotterdam are also within easy reach.
Prevalent industries, including sub-sectors
Set amidst the fantastic road, rail and air connections around Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, unsurprisingly, logistics is one of the strongest sectors in the region. And these connections don’t just inspire transporters to set up shop here, but major producers too. Whether your core business is flowers, denim or life-saving pharmaceuticals, it pays to have the world at your fingertips – as well as immediate access to the entire Dutch market.
Who is here?
The Haarlemmermeer region and areas surrounding Schiphol are home to more than 600 international companies, including L’Oréal, Asics, Kuehne + Nagel, Liberty Global and MacAfee. One exceptionally renowned Dutch big-hitter is Royal FloraHolland. In late 2019, Royal FloraHolland will open a new ‘flower experience centre’ called Floriworld.
The life sciences and health sector is also well represented with companies such as Smith & Nephew and Kite, a Gilead company, which will provide 300 new jobs when fully operational in 2020.
There are now more than 58 business parks and logistics centres in the region, including De President, Green Park Aalsmeer, Schiphol Trade Park and Airport Business Park Lijnden. Park 20|20 is the world’s first business park built entirely to sustainable cradle-to-cradle principles. All offices are energy-neutral, and some even produce more energy than they use.
Good for business
Business trips, logistics and international meetings are all simplified immensely by having one of the best-connected airports in Europe at your doorstep, while rates for offices and other business locations are significantly lower than in Amsterdam or other major cities in the Randstad. Often built according to sustainability principles, they offer a modern work culture enabling happy employees and an excellent work-life balance. Haarlemmermeer also offers a stable economic climate. In recent years it has taken the top spot as the municipality with the strongest economy in the Netherlands.
