Expanding its European presence
Global credit rating agency AM Best has opened its second European office in Amsterdam. The company, which specialises in the insurance industry, opened the new office in the city’s Zuidas business district this week. The firm rates more than 3,500 businesses in more than 90 countries and currently has regional offices in London, Hong Kong, Singapore, Dubai and Mexico City. It is headquartered in the United States.
“We are excited to be in Amsterdam. This new office in the Netherlands supports our growth strategy to provide rating services for the re/insurance industry in continental Europe,” said Nick Charteris-Black, managing director, market development for Europe, the Middle East and Africa at AM Best.
“AM Best was drawn to Amsterdam for a variety of reasons, including its well-established , strong pool of talent and good transport links to the key European locations where our clients are based,” he added. “This also brings a successful conclusion to our planning for Brexit to provide ongoing services to our EU 27 clients.”
Amsterdam's finance sector continues to grow
AM Best’s move to Amsterdam adds another global company to the city’s already thriving finance sector. Increasing numbers of international finance and FinTech businesses are coming to Amsterdam, where they join a glut of successful homegrown players. Established banks are getting increasingly involved with new FinTech initiatives and partnerships, too. The city's strong and diverse financial sector, fast-growing tech ecosystem and outstanding digital infrastructure make it an attractive prospect for businesses. Norinchukin Bank, one of Japan's largest banks, recently moved to Amsterdam, as did digital money transfer service Azimo.
