Supporting smart city startups in Amsterdam
Techstars has teamed up with leading design and consultancy firm Arcadis to support startups that develop innovative technologies aiming to revolutionise the construction and engineering industries, looking into the way people move around cities and the associated infrastructure needed. It’s a promising field: Research by the McKinsey Global Institute predicts the smart city industry to be worth $400 billion by 2020.
The three-month mentorship-driven programme provides content and a team of mentors whose subject-matter expertise, business connections and industry insights on innovative solutions will boost the participating companies’ growth and development.
With its many initiatives and programmes promoting sustainability in urban development and mobility, Amsterdam is a natural home for the smart city accelerator. The Dutch capital is a frontrunner in smart mobility and home to Amsterdam Smart City, a platform that challenges diverse parties to come up with and implement innovative solutions to urban issues.
Since its founding in 2006, Techstars has accepted over 1,000 companies into its global portfolio of programmes. The Arcadis City of 2030 programme is their first accelerator in Amsterdam and furthers Techstars’ expansion around the world.
