Fighting pollution in Amsterdam
In an effort to fight pollution caused by trade vehicles making deliveries, the University of Amsterdam (UvA) and the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (AUAS) have set up a logistics hub outside Amsterdam. Located in Duivendrecht, the hub will serve as a collection point for the many and varied deliveries the institutions receive every day.
Instead of countless small vans delivering various goods to the universities’ many locations throughout the day, the goods will now be collected at the new hub before being distributed in one go using electric vehicles by Post NL. The universities’ eight biggest suppliers of goods have signed up to the scheme, and it is hoped that the remaining suppliers – around 800 – will follow. New contracts will only be made with suppliers that agree to using the hub.
