A European base in Amsterdam

Azimo, a leading European digital money transfer service, has announced the opening of a new Amsterdam office, continuing the company’s rapid growth. With the move, Azimo joins a number of other FinTech businesses from the UK and elsewhere that have put down roots in Amsterdam. The new office is intended as a base to help Azimo increase its share of the global cross-border payments market.

A strong sector that’s open to innovation

Azimo’s CEO Michael Kent puts the decision for Amsterdam down to the success of the Netherlands’ FinTech ecosystem, Amsterdam’s attraction of talent and  the strength of the Dutch central bank (DNB), as well as the latter’s openness to innovation, saying: “The Netherlands has a thriving FinTech sector with an ecosystem that makes it easier to grow our European business than anywhere else outside London. Amsterdam is a great capital that attracts talent from all over the world, while the Dutch Central bank is a strong regulator that is receptive to innovation and new business models and already supervises numerous payments institutions. It is an excellent place for us to continue our expansion in Europe.”

Based in London and Krakow – and now Amsterdam – Azimo is a digital money transfer service that can be used to send money in more than 80 currencies to over 200 countries and territories. Azimo’s services have more than 1.5 million registered customers worldwide. The firm has its headquarters in London and its research and development operations in Krakow. The Amsterdam office will grow as the business in Europe continues to scale.
