Amsterdam tech in the heart of Texas

From 9 to 18 March, Amsterdam will again be represented at South by Southwest (SXSW) in Austin, Texas. SXSW is an annual conference and festival for the creative industries, with a special focus on music, film and technology. It is perhaps best known as the launching platform for popular companies such as Twitter, Spotify and Foursquare. The audience consists of  investors, innovators, corporates and more.

The New Dutch Wave

The Dutch companies that have been selected will be attending as part of New Dutch Wave, a platform that promotes Dutch creativity and entrepreneurship internationally; it launched at the 2017 edition of SXSW. In this year's edition, the New Dutch Wave booth will feature innovative startups, smart-city solutions and various events designed to connect participants. Likewise, the New Dutch Wave “take over” house in the centre of Austin will be hosting inspiring talks, panel discussions, product demos and performances that celebrate Dutch creativity. The startups attending were selected by amsterdam inbusiness, the official foreign investment agency of the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area. amsterdam inbusiness will also attend SXSW to attract international talent to the Amsterdam Area. Together with the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, New Dutch Wave will be hosting curated matchmaking sessions for all the startups.

Amsterdam's most promising ideas

The Dutch startups that will be presenting at the New Dutch Wave booth will also take part in the StartupDelta programme on 12 March. Quite a few of the promising companies present at SXSW hail from Amsterdam. These include Wonderkind, which uses AI to find the best candidates for job openings; GUTS tickets, which uses blockchain technology to prevent ticket fraud; healthcare startup TheSocialMedWork, which aims at providing equal access to medicines globally; the Avocado Show a restaurant and media concept based on sustainable avocados; and Ebo Suite, which lets users add video to live shows and music productions. These companies will have the opportunity to meet new investors, influencers and other industry contacts while showcasing their products to leading decision makers.
