Dutch startups in Paris
The sixteen startups, including Tweetbeam, iLost, Yippie, Squla and Wander, travelled to Paris to join this one-day bootcamp which gave them an introduction to the French market. Some of them, including Squla and Crunchr, have signed contracts with French partners on the 11th of March, during the signing ceremony in presence of the Dutch Royal couple.
The bootcamp programme
During this intensive one-day exploration
we visited the largest Parisian incubator Le Cargo
, which had only officially opened one day before our visit. This 15,000-metres-squared site is dedicated to young innovative companies with a strong identity connected to the creative industries and digital content
. After a tour of the building Paris&Co, the foreign investment and startup organisation of the City of Paris
, presented on the topic of the startup ecosystem of Paris and its incubators. Also, the startups met with Jan Schoonis, a Dutch entrepreneur who lives in Paris and helps Dutch digital companies with finding French clients. Afterwards, the group went to NUMA
, the first and most famous incubator of the city. Startup manager at NUMA, Cecile Thibaut, informed the startups about the do’s and don’t of doing business and setting up shop in Paris.
Memorandum of Understanding
All startups joined in the activities of the economic mission, which included presenting their startup at the Innovation Parade (at Cité de la Mode et du Design), in presence of the Dutch Royal couple
king Willem-Alexander and queen Maxima. They also pitched their startup to an audience of French and Dutch corporates, investors and others interested in partnerships. The bootcamp was given a special twist with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding
by StartupAmsterdam and Paris&Co, agreeing to boost the exchange of startups between both cities. A first result of this MoU is the invitation by The City of Amsterdam to French startups to visit Amsterdam
at the end of May to introduce them to the Amsterdam startup ecosystem. During this week TNW Conference
will take place.
