Gateway to Europe

Segway, the electric personal transport company, has opened its new European office in Amsterdam. The new Segway Europe headquarters will serve as the company’s gateway to the EMEA region, and will focus on both consumer and business-to-business products. New products will also be introduced under the Segway brand Ninebot, with two new Ninebot models set to be launched in the next few months.

Segway Europe, located in Amsterdam’s Zuidoost district, officially opened this first European office on June 21, in the presence of CEO Lufeng Gao.

Amsterdam key to EMEA expansion

As the president of Segway Europe Dennis Hardholt said, "From our new European office, we are able to serve all the European, Middle Eastern and African markets.” He added that the new office will further open up the market for smart and green personal transportation, and will address the needs for both short-distance transportation as well as leisure activities.

Segway in Europe

Segway Europe was founded by Ninebot Ltd., and brings together the two brands. Ninebot, a Beijing-based company that specializes in transport robots, acquired Segway in 2015. Both of these brands focus on the research, development, design, manufacturing, sales, and service of short-distance personal transportation devices. Segway and Ninebot also connect robotic solutions to smartphones, and integrate new technologies such as voice interaction and facial recognition.

More companies choosing Amsterdam as HQ

Segway joins a growing number of companies that have chosen to open offices in the Amsterdam area. On average, the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area attracts 100 to 120 new international companies every year, and is a popular base for companies expanding into the European market and beyond. The region is currently home to more than 2,700 international companies. In 2015, a record number of 140 new international companies established offices here, including 42 new international headquarters.
