Amsterdam brings logistics and science together

The Port of Amsterdam and the ILCA (Innovation Lab Chemistry Amsterdam) at the Amsterdam Science Park have joined forces to actively build a chemical cluster in the Amsterdam Metropolitan AreaThe Port of Amsterdam and ILCA have been collaborating since 2014 to support startups and scale-ups in everything from research challenges to innovation opportunities. This collaboration has now led to the hiring of Soraya Sluijter as a project leader, to further deepen these ties between innovative chemical research and the existing chemical industry. This will help strengthen the role of Amsterdam as a chemical cluster.

A cluster of energy and chemistry

The Port of Amsterdam is home to a large cluster of energy and chemistry related industries. It aims to grow the chemical industry further by making it more innovative and more sustainable, with a focus on bio-based fuels and the circular economy. To that end, the port has developed Prodock, an industrial test site where companies, such as startups from ILCA, can scale up their processes and perform pilots. In the year ahead, Sluijter will be mapping out resources and innovation topics at the port, and matching them with chemical knowledge, research and innovation activities at ILCA.

Accelerating innovation

The ICLA enables and accelerates chemical innovation in the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area by offering equipment, knowledge, research and lab space at Amsterdam Science Park. This support includes a comprehensive package of services to enhance the growth of businesses in an early stage. ILCA accelerates valorisation, stimulates entrepreneurship and creates an accessible environment for knowledge development and transfer, all of which contribute to the creation of an innovation ecosystem.
