These many events are hosted by amsterdam inbusiness, which is the official foreign investment agency of the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area. On 25 June, for example, we saw the return of the annual India Cricket Day at the VRA Cricket Club. It was held in the Amsterdamse Bos forest area, with 16 teams from Indian companies in the Amsterdam area competing. The day was concluded with a casual networking event.
Likewise, every year Amstelveen plays host to the Diwali Festival, the ancient Hindu festival of lights. It has been celebrated in Amstelveen for seven years, and the 2016 edition will take place on Saturday, 22 October. It will be organised by amsterdam inbusiness and various private parties, and about 10,000 visitors are expected to join the celebrations. Another annual expat highlight in Amstelveen is the Indian Colour Festival, where people playfully cover each other with coloured powders. Also known as the Holi Festival, it represents the arrival of spring and the end of winter. The most recent edition took place in April, with the celebrations including DJs and live performances.
Chinese New Year
The Chinese New Year is always festively celebrated in Amsterdam. Celebrations for the most recent edition were held on 22 February at Amsterdam’s grand Beurs van Berlage building. More than 250 guests from the Chinese network in the Netherlands attended, and a keynote speech was given by Mr. Chen Xu, the Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to the Netherlands.
