New hotel for gamers
Amsterdam has yet another speciality hotel. The Arcade Hotel opened on 16 January in the Amsterdam neighbourhood of De Pijp, and caters specifically to video-gaming fans. It is billed as the world’s first gamer-dedicated hotel for travellers who want to play on a gaming console even when they’re on vacation.
The Arcade Hotel has 36 modern rooms, as well as a wide range of gaming devices, including consoles made by Atari, Nintendo, Playstation, Xbox, and more. Alongside modern games, the hotel also features classic gaming consoles as well as a comic book library.
If playing video games in your hotel room all day starts to get a bit too anti-social, the Arcade Hotel also hosts frequent events in the hotel’s common areas, for example a gaming contest that is played outside, projected onto the facade of the hotel.
Guests will also have the option to rent an electric scooter from the Taiwanese company Gogoro, which has chosen Amsterdam as its first test city outside of Taiwan. Gogoro plans to introduce the scooters to Amsterdam in early 2016.
Perfect timing for upcoming gaming conference in Amsterdam
The new hotel will doubtless be in high demand during the upcoming Casual Connect Europe 2016 conference, which will take place in various locations in Amsterdam from 16 - 18 February.
For three straight days, participants from the gaming industry will be able to connect and exchange ideas. About 2000 professionals are expected to attend, with more than 170 prominent speakers from companies such as Facebook, Google, Amazon, YouTube, Tencent, and Epic Games.
Topics will include the rise of mobile gaming and the success of independent game development studios. About 120 studios will also take part in the Indie Prize
Showcase. Other special features include a network lunch for women in the games industry, as well as a developer showcase where attendees can mingle with other developers and learn more about the new games ecosystem.
