Light design meets architecture meets innovation in Amsterdam

The design centre shall foster close collaboration between lighting experts, architects and researchers. According to the Dutch newspaper Het Financieele Dagblad, Zumtobel aims to recruit an international team of 25 professionals to work at the new Amsterdam base. The new centre is expected to result in new, innovative products. According to Zumtobel’s CEO Ulrich Schumacher, Amsterdam is a very attractive location for companies in this sector: “Besides [engaging in] an intensive dialogue with architects we can collaborate with state-of-the-art technology partners here,” Schumacher says.

The opening of the LightLab will be accompanied by the first-ever exhibition of Zumtobel’s renowned Masterpieces Collection, which includes impressive light sculptures by Zaha Hadid, Olafur Eliasson and Daniel Libeskind. The Masterpieces Collection will then be on show to the public at the renowned ARCAM Amsterdam Centre for Architecture until mid-March 2015.

Amsterdam Light Festival

Zumtobel also sponsored the 2014/15 Amsterdam Light Festival. “By partnering with the Amsterdam Light Festival, we are fostering our strong engagement with light and art,” says Stefan von Terzi, Marketing Director at Zumtobel in a press release. “We are looking forward to taking part in one of the largest light festivals in Europe, supporting artists and designers both with our lighting solutions and our experience.”
