More and more leading hotel chains choosing for Amsterdam

Amsterdam is now home to yet another leading international hotel chain. Motel One Amsterdam, which began welcoming guests in August, held its official opening (Dutch link) on 4 November. It now joins leading chains such as Waldorf Astoria, Hilton, CitizenM, and Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide in choosing for Amsterdam.

Motel One also used this opportunity to announce another new branch in Amsterdam, which is slated to open in 2017. Motel One’s COO Daniel Müller said the location of the second hotel is still a secret, but that it is not far from the city centre.

Motel One first launched in 2000, with budget properties located close to German motorways, but has since refined its concept to focus on prime city centre locations including Brussels, Berlin, Frankfurt, and Munich.

An Amsterdam-themed hotel through and through

The 320-room Motel One Amsterdam is located right next to the Amsterdam RAI, by Amsterdam’s bustling Zuidas district. Facilities include a lounge, bar, free wifi, and iPads in the reception area.

In honour of Amsterdam’s favourite means of transport, the bar at the Motel One Amsterdam will have art installations made of old bicycle parts, and the vibrant Dutch lifestyle will be reflected in the vivid furnishings and colourful photos of tulips that capture the positive mood of the city.

Sustainable hotel fits with Amsterdam’s goals

The new hotel building also excels in terms of sustainability, fully in keeping with Amsterdam’s sustainability agenda. The building scored an “excellent” rating in terms of its BREEAM certification, which ranks buildings according to their environmental friendliness.

The building is heated and cooled using a sustainable thermal storage system. The building will also have a greenhouse on the top floor, to grow vegetables that will be used in the hotel’s restaurant.
