The Prosperity Index
This is the sixth edition of the prosperity index to be published by the Legatum Institute. The index assesses global wealth and well-being, and benchmarks 142 countries around the world in eight categories: economy, education, entrepreneurship and opportunity, governance, health, personal freedom, safety and security, and social capital.
The United States drops out of top 10
While the Netherlands has risen on the 2012 index, the United States dropped out of the top 10. Awarded 8th place, the Netherlands outperforms almost all other European countries. Only Scandinavian countries rank higher on the index. The Netherlands scores particularly well on subcategories that measure well-being (for example, personal freedom, social capital and health).
