The World Airport Awards, also known in the travel industry as the Passenger’s Choice Awards, are considered the most significant benchmark for measuring the quality of airports worldwide. For its 2013 edition, Skytrax carried out a survey of more than 12 million travellers from over 160 different countries about the quality of airports around the world. The award ceremony took place at the Passenger Terminal Expo in Geneva in April 2013.
Europe’s best airport and a global star
As well as being proclaimed Best Airport in Europe, Amsterdam Airport Schiphol was rated the third-best airport internationally, only beaten by Singapore Changi Airport and Incheon International Airport (South Korea). When considering airports around the world that process more than 50 million passengers per year, Schiphol is ranked as the second-best international airport.Following the awards, Schiphol Executive Vice President & CCO Maarten de Groof commented: “Passenger comfort and ensuring a travel process that's efficient and reliable are priorities at Schiphol. We are immensely proud that passengers have once again rated Schiphol the best airport in Europe. This award is a commendation not only of our airport, but also of our business partners, and particularly KLM.”
