World-class provisional figures
Amsterdam Airport Schiphol welcomed more than 52.5 million passengers in 2013, representing a 3% growth in comparison with 2012. In turn, freight saw an increase of 3.5%, taking the total to more than 1.5 million tons. The number of air transport movements also increased slightly in 2013, rising by 0.5% to almost 426,000.
Jos Nijhuis, Schiphol Group’s President and CEO, announced the provisional figures during the company’s New Year reception. In a statement to the Dutch newswire ANP (in Dutch), he noted: “It is very positive that we managed to increase both passengers and freight. In spite of this excellent result, it is important to safeguard our position of Europe’s mainport. That is why we will invest €1.5 billion over the coming three years to stay Europe’s Preferred Airport.”
Award winning airport
The fact that Schiphol continues to attract more passengers is matched by the number of international prizes and accolades that the airport continues to receive. In the spring of 2013, Schiphol was once again awarded the prize of Best Airport in Europe at the Passenger Choice Awards by Skytrax. Additionally, Schiphol was rated one of the world’s top 3 airports.
