US firm Wunderkind expands to Amsterdam

Marketing tech agency Wunderkind has opened an office in Amsterdam, helping it better serve clients such as Scotch & Soda and G-Star RAW, among others based in the Amsterdam Area and on the continent.

Founded in the US in 2012, Wunderkind’s technology helps online retailers scale up their customer base through personalised marketing. The company has more than 800 employees worldwide in offices in New York, Indianapolis and London, and a turnover of more than €100 million.

Wunderkind is planning to employ 10 people in marketing, customer success and sales in its first year in Amsterdam, and then designers, developers, engineers after that.

'Most potential to succeed'

Wouter Koch, country manager for the Netherlands, will be leading the office, a UNESCO-listed canal house on Herengracht. He told I amsterdam the Netherlands gave the company “the most potential to succeed”.

“It's just a very healthy country [in terms of business environment], but also in terms of retail, we have a lot of big ecommerce companies like Bol.com, Coolblue. We have a lot of retailers, we have a lot of fashion brands, and that’s the audience that we target or work with, our clients are all in that space.

“I think the good thing with the Netherlands, and Amsterdam in particular, is that you can also grow from here a lot…I think Amsterdam is just an extremely good city, at least for international people, to work in Amsterdam, because there are so many tech companies, a lot of diverse companies that can start work here, and then from here work in different regions.”

Wulfric Light-Wilkinson, general manager of Wunderkind International, said in a press statement: “This is an important milestone for Wunderkind, as with the emerging market in the Netherlands, the Amsterdam office is central to our wider European expansion plans. We look forward to introducing our services with a new roster of retail market leaders – and to welcome local digital talent to our fast-growing team.”

Tech experts meet creatives

Wunderkind joins a number of international marketing companies that benefit from the leading tech scene, creative environment and highly advanced digital infrastructure the Amsterdam Area offers. More than 200,000 people work in the creative industries in the region. Amsterdam is home to martech companies such as Brand New Galaxy and ChurnZero, as well as leading advertising companies 180 Kingsday, Wieden + Kennedy and 72andSunny.
