Trade mission to Vietnam and Malaysia
Urban development is essential to maintaining the economic growth of Vietnam and Malaysia, and innovative solutions to keep the cities liveable are needed to support sustainable economic development. The Netherlands is a key innovator in smart city and urban-planning concepts, high-tech manufacturing and the circular economy. Both Vietnam and Malaysia are keen to collaborate with the Netherlands in these sectors – especially due to the country’s reputation as gateway to Europe – as well as the Netherlands' role as a major innovation and R&D hub.
Malaysia’s rapid urbanisation is accompanied by a variety of challenges. Well on its way to becoming a high-income country, Malaysia is making big investments to address these challenges, which creates several opportunities for innovative Dutch companies. Kuala Lumpar, the capital city, is one of the most densely populated cities in Southeast-Asia and is looking for solutions in the fields of waste water management, smart mobility, urban landscaping and smart city.
Hanoi / Ho Chi Minh City
The rapid expansion of urban areas in Vietnam has lead to a high demand for smart city development – particularly in and around Vietnam’s large economic centres, such as Ho Chi Minh City. Vietnam is aiming to improve the quality of life in its cities. By making these investments, the Vietnamese are actively attracting businesses that offer solutions for water (flooding), smart technologies and renewable energy.
