SOIL

SOIL Amsterdam

SOIL want to make you happy with their food and boy, do they; with delicious and nutritious warm bowls, salads and sandwiches, kombucha on tap and beautiful raw vegan desserts, it’s hard not to smile. The service is quick, but there’s no skimping on quality. As well as being sustainably and locally-sourced, the food is also seasonal, so expect a regularly changing menu. Current gems include the creamy peanut butter curry bowl and the garlic roasted ‘shroom and tahini sandwich. All dishes start out plant-based, but if that animal protein habit is proving hard to kick then there’s the option to include some, though my top-tip is to add the incredibly moreish smoked tofu - you won’t regret it. SOIL also boasts a glass front which opens right out onto the pavement (weather permitting) and you must check out their wall of house-made pickles and fermented goodies - it makes me green with envy every time!

Juice by Nature

Juice by Nature Amsterdam

Juice by Nature is a little oasis of calm nestled in the very heart of Amsterdam. If you ever find yourself sightseeing or shopping in the centre and in need of a healthy, plant-based pick-me-up, then this is the place to go. But it’s also worth a special visit just to try the new healthy high tea. Beautifully presented and full-of-flavour savoury bites (think mini avo and homemade hummus toasts, and cauli-rice and sultana salads) arrive alongside delicious sweets such as rose and pistachio brownies and raw apple pie slices (all gluten and refined sugar-free by the way!), plus you get a bottomless pot of tea to share, too. So, if you fancy a bit of a treat, but don't want to completely over-indulge your tummy (or your purse) then give them a call. Just be sure to specify your dietary requirements when booking.

FENTO x OCCO: A Plant Based Pop-up Dinner

Fento x Occo Amsterdam

In honour of 'Dierendag' on 4 October (that’s World Animal Day to us non-Dutchies), the clever ladies from Fento are teaming up with one of Amsterdam’s most beautiful hotels to bring us a celebration of sustainability and kindness with an intimate 4-course vegan dinner. There’ll be two sittings (18:30 and 21:00) in Bar Brasserie OCCO of The Dylan Hotel, with a menu showcasing Fento’s Mexican-Asian cuisine while exploring some lesser-known superfoods and ‘good mood foods’. Reservations for the dinner can be made by emailing [email protected] but you can also find Fento on all the normal delivery sites as well as in De Foodhallen and at Potgieterstraat 16, where they’ll make your taste buds tingle and your gut happy with their probiotic-packed, plant-forward delights.

Vramen

Vramen Amsterdam

For eat-in vegan ramen cravings there’s the impossibly incredible Men Impossible, but did you know you can also order delicious ‘vramen’ to be delivered straight to your door every weekend? Well you can, and you probably should; winter is coming after all, and everyone knows the tastiest way to ward off those evil germs is to suck up a bowlful of steaming hot broth packed with fresh veg and oodles of noodles. Options range from pickled shiitake or zingy kimchi to plant-based beef or chicken, and there’s two delicious broths to choose from; which always come served separately – so no soggy veggies here! Anyway, that’s all for this month, folks, I’m off to work on my slurping technique.

Vramen: Weekend delivery only from Foodora, Deliveroo or Uber Eats.
