Of course, 24H Zuidoost wouldn’t be complete without shining a light on the neighbourhood’s superlative culinary scene, so here’s an array of events guaranteed to leave you with a full belly and an even fuller smile.

Take a tour of Zuidoost’s food capital

Zuidoost’s World of Food is the perfect introduction to the area’s food scene: 3000 square meters of multicultural cooking designed to get your taste buds tingling. This truly tasty architecture tour of the centre will give you an insight into how a former parking garage was transformed into Zuidoost’s culinary capital – and there’ll be a smorgasbord of smells, sights and (of course) samples to enjoy.

A culinary trip around the world at World of Food // 16 Sept // Food sampling from 14:00 – 16:30, tours at 14:00, 15:00, 16:00

Wash down some local delicacies with an audio chaser

Whether you’re after some scandalously good cakes and cookies, hearty sandwiches or a seasonal beer or two, Oma Ietje - a café and bar named after co-founder Lilian’s granny - is the place to go. And to make it even more appetising during 24H Zuidoost you can wash it all down with some brilliant live performances by singer-songwriters, fresh juices by Juiciety and delicious specials served from a mobile kitchen.

Live music at oma Ietje // 16 Sept // 17:00 – 23:30

Prove your mettle at this ‘manly’ event

The perfect event to prove your manliness, or to prove you can beat the boys with ease, this ‘primal urge day’ will see guests going back to basics with a roster of events designed to put testosterone levels to the test – including wood-chopping, barbecuing and barrel-throwing. Of course, as it’s hosted at De Bijlmer’s very own abbey brewery, you’ll also be able to have a go at brewing (and tasting) your very own beer. Expect beards and flannel aplenty.

‘Primal urge day’ at Kleiburg Brewery // 16 Sept // 16:00 – 01:00
