Pure Markt at Park Frankendael
Amsterdam is known for its charming markets where you can find everything from vintage furniture to huge spreads of delicious Dutch delicacies. But Pure Markt at Park Frankendael in Amsterdam Oost allows visitors the chance to take a culinary journey across the globe in just one afternoon. Its many stalls serve up all Holland’s favourite ethnic foods, as well as other international cuisines, meaning you can sample Dutch Gouda cheese, Surinam roti, Indian curry, American pies and even freshly shucked oysters during just a short walk.
And while you’re in the picturesque Frankendael park why not take some time to enjoy the scenic surroundings by grabbing an organic beer, coffee or wine to go and grab a seat at one of the many terraces on offer throughout the market. There’ll also be live music, a solar-powered merry-go-round for kids, and plenty of fresh produce and food to take home to stock up your fridge.
Jump into the future - Arty Party
Though this free party doesn’t actually allow you to travel forward in time (boo!), it will transform the magnificent entrance hallway of Amsterdam’s Stedelijk Museum into a gigantic yet intimate venue for an art-inspired rave which will feature some of the best new DJs the city has to offer. And as well as big beats in a unique setting, on the night - co-hosted by UltraSexi - there’ll be craft beers and a selection of cocktails on offer.
New Dutch Photography Talent exhibition
Initiated by the founders of international photography magazine GUP, The New Dutch Photography Talent (also known as New) is an annual book which features 100 emerging photographers who are either from or work in the Netherlands. This event to launch the exhibition invites you to meet the talents that feature in the new edition, see the incredible selection of photographs chosen for 2018 and even gives you the chance to get your hands on a copy of the brand-new book. The perfect way to discover your new favourite photographer.
Innovation in the Dam
Probably not the ideal choice if you fancied a weekend with a warm brew and a good book, Innovation in the Dam instead takes over two of the city’s biggest clubbing venues for three full days of drum and bass and jungle music. As well as its blistering roster of DJs playing over the weekend – including the indomitable Chase & Status, Hype and Friction - on Saturday the festival takes over a huge 600-capacity luxury cruiser for its biggest ever daytime boat party. Not your thing? Check out Amsterdam's other great gigs this weekend.
Amsterdam Art Weekend
With more than 100 events at over 50 different locations and a roster brimming with openings, debates and activities across the whole of Amsterdam, this weekend event’s jam-packed program is the perfect chance to explore and discover new art and new artists.
Highlights include ‘Gallery Opening Night’ on Friday, during which 26 galleries will open their doors and showcase renowned Dutch and international artists, while the weekend also offers a once-a-year opportunity to see new works in progress by visiting the Rijksakademie’s resident artists who will welcome the public into their studios. Elsewhere French sculptor, photographer, painter and filmmaker Christian Boltanski presents a site-specific exhibition at Amsterdam’s oldest building: the Oude Kerk.
