Best Latino Lessons

With it’s Urban Latino, Reggaeton & Rock Mestizo vibes, nights at the Melkweg’s Que Pasa? have grabbed the attention of true music enthusiasts from around the world.

Urban Phenomenon
You don’t gain a reputation for being on the cutting edge of the latest trends in music for nothing. Located just off of the Leidseplein, Melkweg is a celebrated international grass-roots, urban music & media venue. And every Friday, the Melkweg provides the best of patxanga and latino music, bands & DJ’s at Que Pasa? – turning this scene into an international phenomenon in its wee three years.

Que PasaQue What?
For those of you who aren’t sure what Que Pasa? is all about, here’s a little crash-course. If you’re expecting (or worried) that you’re going to have to dance to salsa and meringue music all night, then you’re in for a surprise. Although you might hear one or two tracks, the real flavour here is Urban Latino, Reggaeton, Patxanga and mucho Musica Mestiza. This style of Spanish and Latin music was put on the global map when Manu Chao – who has been known to grace this venue’s public with his presence in the past – introduced the rest of the world to the modern mix on traditional latin sounds. He seemed to have opened the door to a musical revolution, influencing Spanish-speaking musicians to move away from more traditional genres which they have been associated with and revealing to the world just how innovative they are. Que Pasa? has clearly jumped on board, offering the best mix of hip-hop, rock, drum and base and dancehall from Spanish and Latin artists who fly in from all corners fo the earth. Don’t forget to look out for the live Rock Mestizo and patxanga bands – which is quite a treat, considering there are only a handful of these bands worldwide.

Roots
Que Pasa? has grown quite popular with locals, Spanish & Latino communities, and backpackers, so expect an energetic crowd of worldly-minded music lovers. The music invites body-moving, and the happy, dancing crowd is known to party until five in the morning. So head over on Fridays from 23:00 - 05:00, and prepare yourself for a long night of dancing. Maybe you can polish up on your Latino while you’re at it.
