Sunsets at the Vondelpark
One of the favourite spots for enjoying a silver screen showing against the backdrop of the sky is the Vondelpark. Enjoy a sunset show on Friday evenings during the summer for €3. The summer of 2005 brings such films as Jacques Tati’s cheerful classic Jour de fête (1949), the histerical This is Spinal Tap (1984) & George Blair’s mystery Exposed(1947). Catch Amsterdam’s favourite photographer’s documentary on his favourite city: Een fotograaf filmt Amsterdam (1982). And don’t forget the surprise film on Friday, 29 July: a sneak preview of a film that will hit theatres in the fall.

Westergasterrain
At the eastside Westergasterrein catch a film and get on the dance floor at the summer season’s Terras Filmcafe Ketelhuis 4 (22 Juli - 20 August). Free entrance.

Nieuwmarkt
From 4 – 6 August, the Nieuwmarkt square near central station will be showing a series of open-air films around the theme of the Gay Pride. Free entry, 22:00.

Westside of the Nieuwe Meer
Kudos to the most original location for open-air screenings from the Buitenland pro-outdoors organisation. Camp out and enjoy films – bring sleeping bags or go to the ‘Drijf In’ – a float-in movie theatre for boats! (6 & 7 Augustus for the film camp, 9 & 10 September for the Drijf In). €5 (film only), €10 festival, camping & breakfast

Marie Heinekenplein
The Marie Heineken square in the Pijp has its own open air film festival featuring several premières from the international Rialto theater nearby (17 -  August). Free entry, films start after sunset. After sunset.

Het Stenen Hoofd
From 25 August - 4 September, the Steenenhoofd on the Westerdok island near the Silodam is showing films that haven’t made i tinto the Dutch cinemas, under the theme ‘Pluk de nacht’ (seize the night). Free entry, after sunset.
