Multi-culti
If you’re willing to venture a little bit outside the city centre, the Dappermarkt will offer you some of the most exotic goods for some of the cheapest prices that any market could offer. Situated smack in the middle one of Amsterdam East, the Dappermarkt caters to one of the most multicultural (or multi-culti as the Dutch like to say).
Mishmosh
Located on the Dapperstraat, just minutes away from Oosterpark and the Troppenmuseum, the Dappermarkt offers 600 meters and around 250 stands of fresh fruit, vegetables, plants, sundries, clothing and some very random objects at value prices. Both run and frequented by Amsterdam’s ethnic populations, the market is buzzing with locals from backgrounds such as Morocco, Turkey, Surinam, Egypt, Tunisia, Indonesia, and the Antilles. The market is also sprinkled with small fusion eateries and snack bars, offering tasty bites you may have never tried before.
Merry Mix
So grab a Surinamese bara (a spicy, fried pastry made of chickpea flour), a Turkish pide (flatbread with toppings of tomato, minced meat and paprika), or some spicy Moroccan olives. Satisfy your curiosity and buy that big piece of salted fish or that funny-looking fruit that you didn’t even know existed. Rummage through the clothes for that one cool pair of plaid trousers. The Dappermarkt promises a unique experience, a lively and friendly atmosphere and bargains that are just as kind to the wallet.
