Way to Send a Message
Recommended by I ambassador Sara
Sometimes you have to deliver something yesterday to another part of the city. Your car gets blocked by trams, tour busses and construction detours. Public transport takes too long. Forget walking, you don’t have the time. A bike messenger is your answer, and De Komeet has some of the best.
Speed
Amsterdam is a compact city clearly built for bicycles – actually the fastest form of transport available. And who knows best how to navigate the small streets, allies and canals with speed and grace but the city’s ‘overground’ network of fietskoeriers, or bike messengers. De Komeet (The Comet) is one messenger company that surely lives up to its name. They have three tempos:
Superspoed (Superspeed) for deliveries requiring the speediest action possible: your package will be picked up and delivered within 30 minutes – guaranteed. Price: €13.50 + VAT of 19%. - Spoed (Speed) is the standard service, picked up and delivered within 1 hour after your have placed the call. Price: €9.50 + VAT of 19%.
- Combi (Combination) for less dire jobs, your job will be picked up and delivered within two hours. Price: €7.50 + VAT of 19%.
Big Loads
For jobs that can’t fit into one of their water-tight courier bags (and those can handle up to 5 kilos and packages measuring 40 x 60 x 10 cm), De Komeet also has a ‘Bob’: a small 'Bob' wagon is hooked onto the back of the bicycle and can hold up to 20 kilos and packages measuring 40 x 65 x 50 – much quicker than a car in the city. De Komeet also provides service by scooter and car for deliveries outside of Amsterdam proper, as well as an overnight tariff for deliveries before midnight that will arrive before noon the next day. There are extra tarrifs for these special arrangements.
Service, Service and More Service
De Komeet knows service, breaking down any rumours that the Dutch are not service-oriented. They’re just a bunch of nice guys running a tight ship and they can be trusted to deliver the goods. To place an order, call 020 689 1864. The dispatcher will take your information, explain the tariffs involved, and send a messenger to you or the desired pick-up point within the agreed upon time and addresses. The recipient signs to confirm the delivery has arrived on time. Which it will be. You may want to thank them with a cup of coffee or a kind word, especially after they’ve just ridden through the rain and cold for you. But most likely, they’ll be happy with the kind word and have to decline the coffee as they must ride on...
