Remembrance Day- 4 May
Remembrance Day in The Netherlands is a time to remember civilians and military killed in wars and peace operations since the beginning of World War Two. There are memorial services held throughout the country; Amsterdam’s is held at the National Monument on Dam square.

Nieuwe Kerk
The memorial service (by invite only) held in the Nieuwe Kerk begins at 18:55 and can be followed live on the Dutch television channel, Nederland 2. There will be speakers and music.
Dam square
Around 15,000 people congregate on Dam square. Wreaths will be laid at the National Monument followed by two minutes silence at 20.00. Then everyone will sing the national anthem, followed by a speech and a poem.
