ABC Treehouse
The ABC Treehouse is the meeting, event and exhibition home of The American Book Center, and offers several cultural activities to the international and local community of Amsterdam, including:
- Lectures, workshops, seminars and discussions.
- Creative events such as open-mic nights, writing workshops, music performances and poetry readings.
- A Do-It Yourself gallery for artists to show their work.
- Staff-organised events such as book exchanges, special sales, games days, author lectures, book club meetings, staff meetings and the annual potluck Thanksgiving Dinner.
- Space rental for other events, meetings, seminars and workshops.

TheMeetInAmsterdam group's primary focus is to provide a relaxed, 'non-pickup-scene' social environment for people in their 20s and 30s without paying membership fees. If you just moved to Amsterdam or if you have lived here for a while, this group can be a great way to meet new people in the area. Join them for happy hours, camping, hiking, clubbing, art gallery tours, barbecues, ski trips and many other social events around the Amsterdam area. They have also broadened to include another group for 40s and 50s.

Maison Descartes Institute Francais de Pays-Bas
Opened in 1933 by Sorbonne Professor Gustave Cohen, the Maison Descartes is the oldest foreign institute in Amsterdam and has always focused on French lanugaue, literature and academics. It aims not only to educate about French culture, but also to stimulate French-Dutch dialogue. The institute offers courses, classes and workshops regarding the French language and culture for all levels and interests. Over 1,500 students study there every year.

ACCESS is a not-for-profit organisation established in 1986 to bridge the gap between the international community and English-speaking services available in The Netherlands. They supply free information from an extensive database, offer publications, courses, events, a professional counselling referral service and run a free helpline. They also provide several fact sheets covering subjects such as these.
