De Jordaan
De Jordaan – per lungo tempo quartiere popolare di Amsterdam è un luogo che ha mantenuto il tipico carattere della città. È il quartiere più cantato, di cui si è scritto di più e dove potrete trovare le icone popolari della città. Alcuni dicono che è il quartiere più romantico di tutti i Paesi Bassi! Alla fine di Elandsgracht, c’è una piazza chiamata Johnny Jordaan Plein. Qui ci sono le immagini di quattro seguitissimi musicisti di Amsterdam: Johnny Jordaan (musicista cieco da un occhio), Tante Leen, Manke Nelis e Johnny Meyer. Se volete ascoltare la loro musica dovete recarvi al Café Nol, un po’ più avanti sulla stessa strada.
Canzoni di vita
Levenslied (canzoni di vita) è un termine che descrive un genere musicale olandese. Un cafè molto famoso dove ascoltare questo tipo di musica è il ‘Bolle Jan’ a De Jordaan, dove è cresciuto il cantante popolare di Amsterdam René Froger. Questo luogo trasuda del tipico humor cinico del Jordaan; la regola del bar è: "Alla fine della serata, tutti dovrebbere tornare a casa con il proprio cappotto, il proprio cappello e la propria donna”. Andate lì ad incontrare gli abitanti di Amsterdam, passerete sicuramente una bella serata!
Gente di Amsterdam
De Pijp è un altro quartiere popolare famoso quanto De Jordaan. Il mercato Albert Cuyp occupa una lunga strada che attraversa tutto il quartiere ed è un famoso mercato di Amsterdam. A metà strada incrocia la Eerste Sweelinckstraat, lì troverete la statua del più famoso cantante popolare che Amsterdam abbia mai conosciuto: André Hazes. Non è una coincidenza che la statua sia stata eretta proprio qui – questo è il luogo dove egli fu scoperto: cantava per raccoglie un po’ di soldi per comprare un regalo a sua madre.

L’autentica atmosfera popolare può essere trovata in altri luoghi di Amsterdam. Intorno a Rembrandtplein ci sono alcuni bar che propongono musica popolare olandese, dove tutti cantano insieme. I giovani probabilmente si divertiranno di più al CoolDown Cafe, allo Shorts of London oppure al Rembrandt Bar. E per gli amanti del genere popolare, una tappa al Jordaan Festival che si svolge ogni anno è d’obbligo. Lì sarete sicuri di sentire tutte le canzoni Levenslied e di incontrare l’autentico carattere popolare di Amsterdam!
