La Oostelijke Handelskade si trova al centro dell’Oostelijk Havengebied ed è composto da una serie di magazzini costruiti nel 19° secolo. Essi sono oggi diventati edifici residenziali, contornati da grattaceli e luoghi d'incontro. Qui si trova l'imponente Muziekgebouw aan ’t IJ: dove si può cenare ed assistere a concerti godendo di un magnifico panorama sul fiume IJ. Al Passengers Terminal Amsterdam, un bell’edificio in vetro a forma di onda, vi è un continuo passaggio di turisti che salgono e scendono dalle navi da crociera.
Dall’isola di Borneo si può passare a piedi sulla penisola di Sporenburg attraversando un ponte molto particolare, il Pythonbrug. Questo ponte rosso lungo novanta metri, si snoda come un serpente e sfocia nella Scheepstimmermanstraat, le cui case sono state progettate dagli stessi residenti. Sull’isola di Java troverete moderni canali e nove stravaganti ponti, mentre sull’isola KNSM oltre agli imponenti caseggati come Barcelona e Pireus, si possono trovare il designboulevard Loods 6 ed suoi i negozi di arredamento interni come Sissy-Boy Homeland e Pols Potten ma anche il moderno negozio per bambini Keet in Huis.
Musica e spettacoli
Poco più avanti vi sono numerosi locali: in un vecchio magazzino troverete il ristorante Fifteen del cuoco inglese Jamie Oliver; in una replica di una vecchia nave mercantile russa è situato il locale Odessa, dove potrete cenare e trascorrere la serata e ballare. Per pernottare provate il Lloyd Hotel, ricavato in un ex carcere minorile e riprogettato da noti designer, artisti e architetti.
