Noord
Sull’altra sponda dell’IJ sorge il quartiere di Amsterdam-Noord; una zona verde e tranquilla che ha interessanti attività da offrire. Qui la città di Amsterdam ha incoraggiato diversi progetti: dai festival sperimentali, ai moderni parchi per skatebord, dalle fiere, alla creazione di giardini. Dietro la Stazione Centrale prendete il traghetto gratuito (verso NDSM-werf o Buiksloterwegveer) che in pochi minuti vi portarà nel quartiere Noord.
Creatività in NDSM
Prendendo il traghetto in direzione di NDSM-werf si raggiunge una delle parti della città più creative e innovative. Fino agli anni ‘80 sorgeva qui un cantiere navale che ora è diventato la culla di eventi culturali, festival e rappresentazioni. L’emittente televisiva MTV ha qui la sua sede centrale; vi è inoltre un grande parco coperto per lo skateboarding. Nell’ex mensa del cantiere NDSM è stato ricavato un grande ristorante, l’IJ-Kantine, dove tutto iI giorno si servono piatti internazionali in una magnifica sala sull’acqua.
IJ Hallen
Più o meno una volta al mese, proprio lì vicino, si svolge il grande mercato dell'usato IJ Hallen; se vi piace spulciare tra le bancarelle per cercare vestiti ed accessori vintage, oggetti da collezione, e se siete sempre in cerca di arredi anni '60/'70 questo è un appuntamento che non potete mancare. All'uscita dall'IJ Hallen i veri Amsterdammers si fermano spesso al Noorderlicht, un ristorante situato in una cupola trasparente nel quale ci si può rilassare ammirando Amsterdam dal lato nord. Se invece ritornando in centro volete pranzare in battello, potrete prendere il Pannenkoekenboot e mangiare le tipiche frittelle olandesi durante la navigazione.
In campagna verso Buiksloterwegveer
Amsterdam-Noord comprende numerosi e caratteristici villaggi: è la meta ideale per una gita a piedi, in bicicletta o in barca. Nei villaggi storici di Nieuwendam, Ransdorp e Zunderdorp si possono ammirare le fattorie con il tetto di paglia e le case di legno, diverse chiuse e panorami mozzafiato. Lungo la strada potrete fare una pausa in un caffè o in un ristorante: nel villaggio di Holysloot si trova ad esempio Het Schoolhuis, un affascinante ristorante con terrazzo. A Watergang sorge il vecchio caffè ristorante ’t Dijkhuis e vicino al traghetto, sulla Buiksloterweg, c’è il ristorante De Pont, con vista panoramica sull'IJ.
