This theatre presents a variety of dramatic and musical performances. The Amsterdam Music Theatre is the home of Het Nationale Ballet and De Nederlandse Opera, and also offers a platform for national and international companies and productions.
The theatre seats 1,600. Yet its semicircular form ensures that the seats are nevertheless close to the stage. It retains a pleasant, intimate atmosphere. In addition to performances of opera, ballet and music, the Muziektheater is also a prodigious supplier of products.
Guided tours behind the scenes
All the costumes, props and sets for Nederlandse Opera and Nationale Ballet productions are made in house. Every Saturday the Stopera offers a guided tour behind the scenes, including the costume studios and dressing rooms. A small presentation also offers an opportunity to admire the wigs and garments used in operas and ballets then and now.
