Mayor Cohen named one of Time Magazine's 'Heroes of 2005'

On 3 October, 2005 ‘Time Magazine’ selected Amsterdam Mayor Job Cohen to be amongst Europe’s ‘Heroes of 2005’. The Mayor, known for his pragmatism, has been key in keeping tolerance alive in the city.

'We, Amsterdammers'

In 2004, the Mayor launched the initiative 'Wij Amsterdammers' (‘We, the people of Amsterdam’). This action plan forms an initial answer to the question of  how urban groups can interact with each other whilst best defending against the people who threaten the city's freedoms.

Radicalisation in Amsterdam

In 2005 the City of Amsterdam commissioned a report from the Institute for Migrations and Ethnic Studies  (IMES) into radicalisation in the city. Read the press release detailing the report's findings here.
