Science Park Amsterdam

Science Park Amsterdam concentrates upon international research and exchange of knowledge and is already establishing a reputation as the home of a number of important knowledge-based institutions.

The Amsterdam Internet Exchange (AMS-IX) at Science Park Amsterdam is mainland Europe’s biggest independent hub for Internet traffic. The AMS-IX at Science Park Amsterdam facilitates ‘peering’ among users of this non-profit data routing platform: major Dutch Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and big foreign ISPs. Also based here, NetherLight is the European hub for the ‘Little GLORIAD', a link in a secure, high-speed network specifically for scientific and academic users. It is the second largest optical Internet exchange in the world, with technology for network services optimised for high-performance applications and grid computing. These high-tech facilities draw IT and New Media companies, and such clusters spur interaction and synergy between advanced research institutes and high-tech businesses.
