The Amsterdam Public Library (OBA) is located on the Oosterdok Island, close by Central Station. With a surface area of 28.000 square metres and 25 kilometres of book shelves, it is the largest of its kind in the Netherlands. The library is home to a half million books, periodicals, CDs and DVDs. Designed by former civil architect Jo Coenen, the new complex is spacious and bright. A high point both figuratively and literally speaking, is the 270-seat theatre on the 7th floor. Sure to become a new attraction for tourists, the restaurant and terrace here offer up some fantastic views of the city.
