What's open during Easter weekend

Most shops and museums are open in the centre of town on Good Friday and both Easter days. Markets, including the city’s largest market, Albert Cuyp, will be open on Good Friday and Saturday 7 April. The Flower Market is also open on Good Friday, perfuming the Metropolis with the sweet scent of blooming spring flowers.

Food lovers can visit the organic food markets on Noordermarkt and Nieuwmarkt to stock up for a picnic in the park. The Pure Market is also a great day out for the whole family. On Easter Sunday (8 April), it takes place at the Amstelpark.

For the kids

On Sunday 8 April, Bijlmerweide petting zoo in Amsterdam hosts an Easter party with an egg hunt, egg painting, lemonade and more. Around Easter, farms in the Amsterdam area hold "lamb days" where kids can cuddle and feed newborn lambs .

Or take the kids on a real egg-citing adventure for egg painting and an egg hunt at Pampus Fort on Pampus Island.

Every Sunday, the Hard Rock Cafe in Amsterdam has face-painting for kids from 13:00 - 17:00. On Easter Sunday, it's bound to be extra special.

Artis Royal Zoo has an fun line-up of activities on Easter Sunday, including a special treasure hunt.

Flowers and Passions

Easter is the perfect time to visit the world’s largest flower show. There’s plenty to experience at the Keukenhof Gardens throughout the weekend, including the Easter Hat Parade on 9 April.

Performances of Bach’s St. Matthew and St. John Passions are traditionally held at the Westerkerk and Amsterdam's grand concert hall, the Concertgebouw throughout March and April.

Treat yourself to a delicious meal at one of Amsterdam's finest eateries or hotels. During Easter weekend, a variety of locations will be offering special Easter meals and menus. Here are just a few suggestions to whet your appetite:

Sofitel Legend Amsteram The Grand Hotel will be offering a luxurious lunch, afternoon tea and dinner in their acclaimed Restaurant Bridges on both Easter Sunday and Easter Monday.

Amsterdam's magnificent Amstel Intercontinental Hotel is organising both an Easter brunch and Easter high tea, as well as offering special hotel packages for Easter weekend.

Grand Hotel Amrâth is hosting a delicious brunch on both Easter Sunday and Easter Monday, starting at 13:00. If the weather allows, there will also be outdoor seating available. In addition, they have an afternoon high tea on Monday 9 April.

Hotel Arena offers a very affordable Easter buffet on Easter Sunday from 11:00, with special prices for children 12 and under.
