24H Amsterdam is an opportunity to experience the city in new ways. Look out for a Zuidoost edition takes place again in 2017, showcasing the south-east of Amsterdam.
First taking place in 2016, 24H Zuidoost (south east) was an opportunity to discover and experience all that this vibrant district has to offer. A world away from the canals-and-clogs image of Amsterdam, Zuidoost is a neighbourhood of contrasts. Visually, it's a mix of high-rise residential housing and gleaming high-tech office buildings, housing global firms like ING and Staples. But the cultural contrasts are also evident here; from the colourful influence of the area's Caribbean immigrant population on food, drink and art, to the global scale entertainment on offer at the AFAS Live (formerly the Heineken Music Hall), the Ziggo Dome, the Pathe ArenA multiplex cinema and the Amsterdam ArenA. With around 100,000 residents from more than 150 ethnic backgrounds, Zuidoost promises to be an exciting and varied backdrop to a wonderful weekend of culture in Amsterdam.
A phantom spot on the map? Didn’t think so. If you take a closer look, you will see that Amsterdam’s Zuidoost is a lively and vibrant area. During 24H in 2016, visitors were guided through a side of Zuidoost they didn’t know existed. Highlights included a visit to an open-air sauna, a festival in an old garage, a convent brewery, playing dominos with the locals, a visit to the Kleiburg studio brimming with artistic talent, a tour around the Taibah Mosque and finding the yummiest goodies during Heel Zuidoost Bakt.
