Green and clean in Noord
The area of Vogeldorp was Amsterdam's first `garden village', in which each home had its own garden. Built in the early 1900s, at a time when the medical profession was realising that cleanliness helped to prevent the spread of infection, this meant that the city of Amsterdam was encouraging the spread of bathhouses. This specific bathhouse in Vogeldorp was designed in the shape of a farmhouse to emphasise the rural character of the area.
