Amsterdam's canals, alleys and gables

The tour takes you to the oldest part of Amsterdam with its beautiful canals, alleys, buildings and gables and includes some extraordinary buildings such as the Oudemanhuispoort, the Spinhuis and the Stadsbank van Lening. And there's three superlatives: Amsterdam's narrowest house, its largest house and its oldest house.

The tour guide elaborates on all this with plenty of historical details and anecdotes. The walk is also fun to do with children (or grandchildren), who'll learn what Saint Nicholas and Michiel de Ruyter have in common, what 'New Amsterdam Level' ( Nieuw Amsterdams Peil) means and much more. In short, the walk is interesting for all ages.

Held in Dutch and English. Walks take place Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays at 10:00 (other days and times available upon request) and start at the National Monument on Dam Square. Duration: 1.5 hours, costs €10 per person (under-12s free). Please book in advance.
