Amsterdam's dance culture is pumping! With some of the world’s best DJs playing an incredibly wide variety of music styles, a host of international clubs, record and clothing shops and booking offices, Amsterdam is the ideal city to party. Each year, dozens of well-organized dance festivals are held in and around the city, attracting thousands of visitors. The most well-known festivals are Dance Valley, Awakenings, 5Daysoff, Sensation, Mystery Land, Loveland and Innercity. Get your tickets ahead of time as the events often sell out quickly!
Awakenings to Dance Valley
Dance Valley started in 1995 and was the first outdoor dance festival in the Netherlands. Today, Dance Valley is the biggest and most popular event, which is much more than just a festival. It’s been hailed as "a magical playground with endless possibilities''. Held in the Spaarnwoude recreation area about 15 kilometres from Amsterdam, there are numerous easy and organized ways of getting there. Awakenings, is the largest techno festival in the Netherlands attracting top international artists, and is held every June in Halfweg.
Sensation and Mystery Land
No, it’s not an angel’s convention! Sensation is an indoor house event where everyone has to wear white! Each year spectacular themes are revealed in the Amsterdam edition – which then travel the Sensation parties held around the globe. Another event where loads of effort goes into the scenery is Mystery Land. Attracting up to 60 000 visitors, Mystery Land is held in the Floriade grounds in Haarlemmermeer – which were once the setting for the World Horticultural Exhibition. The gorgeous garden surroundings are added to by colourful festival constructions.
Amsterdam Dance Event
If you love dance, then don’t miss the annual Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE) held in October. This is the gateway to the international electronic music scene. As Europe's leading electronic music conference and the world's biggest club festival, it's the perfect time and place to meet with international music minds, introduce your business to an international audience and connect with new music, new trends, new people. The four-day ADE, draws a crowd of around 90,000 in over 40 venues playing host to more than 700 DJs and artists.
Well-organized and secure
With big-name organisers behind most of Amsterdam’s premier dance events and festivals, they are usually very well set-up, orderly and secure. Official transport to the events is highly efficient – and often door-to-door by bus from the closest train station saves on the hassle to find parking.
